Clear and Present Danger

Man of Sin?

On April 25, 1982, the L.A. Times ran an ad from a group of new age proponents declaring that ‘Lord Maitreya’ was already here and awaiting the time to reveal himself. At that time, they claim, he will be universally recognized as a savior in the midst of increasing chaos.

This man’s description is like the man that the Apostle Paul spoke of nearly 2000 years ago as ‘the man of sin’. In 2 Thessalonians 2:4, 9-12, Paul writes about the Lord Jesus returning to earth after this man is revealed:

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God…[Even him], whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. ”

The prophet Daniel also wrote about this same man:

“And he shall speak [great] words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. (Two and one half years)”   Daniel 7:25

The Present Danger

Today’s headlines demonstrate an increasing intolerance for Christianity throughout the world.

The Jews have known such intolerance for centuries, much of it coming from professing Christians. Now, however, the world is emboldened to do harm to both Jews and Christians alike. There are many justifications for this in the minds of those so motivated. However, the real source of their motivation is clear to any who study the Bible and receive it as the Word of God. Let’s go back a few thousand years.

In the book of Genesis, we read the history of the tower of Babel. This region was originally founded by a man named Nimrod. (Genesis 10:10) He was renowned as a mighty one in the earth.  Men were all of one language then (Gen 11:1). They attempted to build a tower to heaven that would enthrone a man (“make them a name” – presumably Nimrod) and dethrone God. In the midst of their building God sent the confusion of tongues so that mankind was divided and formed various cultural groups. (Mankind is only one race or ‘made of one blood’ – see Acts 17:26)

Since that time, these individual groups have become more homogenized and distinct from other groups. These differences created distrust and perceived threats between groups resulting in wars, empires and national boundaries created by treaties. Now, with increasing global trade, travel, intermarriage and communications, many barriers between groups are breaking down.

While there are no groups that are ‘more highly evolved’ than others, some cultures become more dominant because of effective social strategies. When those strategies change or breakdown, other groups become dominant. However, none of this is due to superior genetics.

The result of the breakdown at Babel was the world of men became confused as to their identity. The Hebrew word ‘babel’ means confusion by mixing. The name “Mystery Babylon” is the name given to describe a religious system that is an amalgam or mixing of every religious system with the exception of true believers in Christ.

The true church of Jesus Christ is composed of both Jew and Gentile. At this date in history, the majority of the church is already with Christ in the glory. Those of us who are yet alive and are a part of the church on earth are now the objects of satanic hatred. This is primarily because we recognize that there is only one way back to God:

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 and; That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth; And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

(Philippians 2:10,11)

Welcome to the New Age

The real motivation for hatred of Jews and Christians is satanic hatred. Lucifer hates mankind in general and the Word of God in particular. ‘Salvation is of the Jews’ but available to both Jew and Gentile who bow to God’s Word. The devil will do whatever it takes to sow doubt about the truth in the minds of men and draw us into hell by deceit. Any person who confesses with their mouth and believes in their heart that Jesus is Lord, the Lord saves (Romans 10:9). That person is forever secured from going to hell.

Now the devil knows that hell was prepared for him and his angels so he cannot stand the thought that men and women will occupy a place of favor with Christ – a place that he once had. Therefore, his animosity is intense for any witness to the name of Christ.

One means of deceit that he uses is to draw all of mankind back into a unified worship with a man at it’s center. This is what is described in the book of the Revelations of Jesus Christ as ‘Mystery Babylon’ (Rev. 17:5). It will have at it’s head that man of sin, claiming to be christ. The same man that the Apostle Paul wrote of many years ago.

So, welcome to the New Age! The present danger to each of us is in this age is this: If we deny the proof that Jesus Christ is Lord by is His verifiable resurrection from the dead; If we deny that Jesus of Nazareth alone is God’s Christ; If we deny Him as our Lord and Savior, then we will believe the lie and accept the world’s false christ.

“And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by [that] man whom he hath ordained; [whereof] he hath given assurance unto all [men], in that he hath raised him from the dead. ”   Acts 17:31,32
