Cons-piracy Theory

There are endless versions of this joke:..

When asked how many Christians does it take to change a light bulb?… the predictable response is…

Change?

An aversion to change is not just true of Christians. We have our traditions, some are biblical and to be guarded. Still, some traditions are confused with biblical truth and treated as such. Yet this is true of all people. We all have a ‘normalcy bias’ that we are reluctant to have challenged. Things that are abnormal we have a tendency to dismiss without giving it much more consideration.

We live in a time where things appear to be falling apart in rapid succession but for those who study Biblical prophecy, we recognize that, in fact, things are coming together just as the Bible predicts. Nevertheless, world events are upsetting our normalcy bias. As we look to make sense of our world, we cling to those things that assure us through their normalcy and reflexively reject ideas that try to explain things out of our ‘normal’ paradigm.

So when various theories are brought up about what is happening in our world, our conditioned reflex is to label it a ‘conspiracy theory’, dismiss it and go on with our ‘normal’ life. Yet, if we say that we believe the Bible is the Word of God, we are acknowledging that conspiracies exist. Consider this passage from Psalm 2…

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, [saying], Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.”

Psalm 2:1-3 KJV

Then, by way of comparison…

Why are the nations restless And the peoples plotting in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers conspire together Against the LORD and against His Anointed, [saying,] “Let’s tear their shackles apart And throw their ropes away from us!”

Psalm 2:1-3 NASB20

You will notice that the word translated ‘take counsel together’ can also be translated ‘conspire together’. This passage is predicting a time when all of the nations of the world will ‘rage’ in a united effort to war against God people and His restraining influence in the earth.

Throughout human history beginning at the tower of Babel, mankind has attempted to conspire against God and make his own way to spiritually connect with the cosmos. World rulers have arisen, energized by evil, satanic influences to enslave large swaths of humanity. With each of these efforts, God intervened to restrain their designs for world domination.

What scripture reveals is that there is coming a time when God will allow mankind its desire to conspire together and ‘cast their cords asunder‘. God will remove His restraining hand and literally, all hell will break loose on the earth. An example of that restraining hand is referenced by the prophet Jeremiah as God brought judgment against the nation of Israel. He did this, in part, by removing His right hand that restrained Israels enemies:

“He has cut off in [his] fierce anger all the horn of Israel: he has drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire, [which] devours round about.”

Lamentations 2:3 KJV

So, conspiracies do exist but they are difficult to maintain because God causes them to fail by various means. We are left to try and discern how the conspiracy will ultimately unfold. God has revealed much of what the world will look like in the end times so this gives rise to various ‘conspiracy theories’ about what current events mean.

However, the danger is that when we hear various theories, we tend to ignore them as violations of our normalcy bias. The result is that we keep ourselves ignorant of how our current events are actually setting the stage for the grand conspiracy of world domination.

‘The Plan’

For such a conspiracy to succeed:

  • It would have to have a great deal of centralized planning that would transcend many generations of adherents to ‘the plan’.
  • It would have to be something codified by some sort of a grand council that would operate as a cult so that each generation would know their part and be delighted to serve ‘the plan’.
  • It would have to have a means of deluding and coercing the masses that ‘the plan’ works in their best interest.
  • It would have to infiltrate every sector of society, (as it was to Israel, so it even to the church), so as to influence it and make it conformable to ‘the plan’.

Whatever ‘the plan’ is, God has a counter plan. This reveals that we are in a spiritual battle and we must decide to which plan we will subscribe. The scriptures reveal that this battle is not between impersonal forces of good and evil, but it is a choice between two personal spiritual beings, God the Creator and Satan, a created super-angel.

Satan’s desire is to usurp God on His throne and he does this primarily through deceit and if deceit fails, he does not hesitate to murder those who oppose him. (John 8:44) He deceived Adam and Eve by causing them to focus on what God was withholding from them. This caused them to doubt the character of God.

Every sin that we commit has this element at its core. Whether it is covetousness or malice, we are deceived into thinking that God’s plan and provision for us is insufficient. We take matters into our own hands and may be surprised to find ourselves in league with those who conspire ‘to break their bands asunder’ and make war against God.

The simple objective of God’s sophisticated plan is to draw our attention back to His character so that we rediscover that He is merciful and just; His is kind and good; He is always true but forgiving to any who confess to their sin. There is only one sin can not be forgiven. That is the sin of denying God’s goodness by rejecting Him who is the expressed image of God. (Hebrews 1:1-4)

Be looking for the next couple of posts. We will compare the evidence of the devil’s plan with the plan of God that He has revealed to us.

Until then, just change the light bulb….
