The Old Gospel and The New Birth

The New Age Movement

promotes something called, “the acceptance of sharing”. Presumably, it means that as mankind comes to share a common belief in humanity itself, we will know a universal acceptance with God however we perceive Him to be.

This is a form of ‘group think’ and ‘group speak’. The idea is that coming together as one and working together as one under one man who claims to be ‘the master of christ consciousness’, we will settle the world’s disputes and ills. Oddly, the claim is that this is only possible through focusing on our self by means of SELF awareness, SELF actualization, and SELF sufficiency.

The reality is that if we do not come to God on His terms, admitting that we are helpless sinners and that God alone is righteous, we are already condemned (John 3:18)

Each of us stands before God as guilty of sin and deserving of eternal banishment from the presence of God. yet, God’s love for us is so deep that he did not withhold from us His only Son but gave Him up freely for us all. He gave Himself as a substitute to bear the punishment for your sin and my sin. He did this because He does not desire that we perish, but that we should each have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

There is nothing plainer or more simple than this. Still, because you and I are so desperate to remain in control, we cling to our sin rather than coming to an end of ourselves and letting the Lord save us.

“And He said unto them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me.” Luke 9:23

A common misquote from the Bible is: “The Lord helps those that help themselves”. When in reality the Lord’s help comes to those that admit that they are helpless.

“For we being still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans 5:6

The good news of the gospel is that salvation and acceptance with God does not depend upon ourselves. It is entirely a work of God. Salvation is free for us but very costly for Him.

Jesus said that except you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God (John 3:3) But what does it mean to be born again?

The literal reading of the phrase is “born from above and it means simply that just as you and I were born into an earthly family, you and I must be born into a heavenly family. Acceptance with God only comes through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Without Christ, God declares us to be dead in trespasses and sins. Repentance means that we agree with God and Salvation means that we receive Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior. This is only possible through the Spirit of God working a change to our hearts.

Only then can we rightly claim to be accepted as children of God.

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12).
